STEM F1

Four year 6 children who have been taking part in the after-school STEM Formula 1 club went to Bolton University yesterday. They raced their own F1 car as part of an exciting project to find the engineers of the future. The competition is aimed at encouraging and developing youngsters to learn engineering.
Twenty teams from the North West went to the tournament. The children designed and built their model themselves during the after-school club. Yesterday, they used a CO2 cartridge to propel their racing car along a 20-metre track in under one and a half seconds. We were in the top three teams of the judge’s favourites. However, the top two qualified for the grand final in Rotherham. We had a fantastic day and the children were given the opportunity to drive a formula 1 car in a simulator.
